Mission


The International Association for Humanitarian Medicine Brock Chisholm is a professional, non-profit, non-governmental organization that promotes and delivers health care on the principles of Humanitarian Medicine, perpetuating the ideals of Dr George Brock Chisholm, founding father of WHO.
IAHM promotes, provides, delivers and supports peoples' health in developing countries.

In particular it:


  • provides medical, surgical and nursing care to patients in or from developing countries deficient in the necessary specialized expertise;
  • mobilizes hospitals and health specialists in developed countries to receive and treat such patients on a humanitarian basis;
  • collaborates with other institutions pursuing similar objectives;
  • promotes the availability of Health For All.

In line with these aims, the Association carries out a variety of initiatives, including:

  • strengthening and maintaining relationships at national and international level with similar
    organizations and with United Nations organizations concerned with health education, appropriate health technology, communications and personnel, and particularly with training in the developing countries;
  • creating and managing in developing countries, in collaboration with NGOs and other public and private institutions, international health projects employing experts, collaborators and volunteers;
  • producing and distributing visual and audio-visual communications and relevant material (leaflets, posters, slides, videocassettes, publications and films) to be used at national and international level in initiatives relating to health in developing countries;
  • creating with the Association's experience and managing information and health programmes in developed countries and in all regions, also with national and international public and private institutions;
  • promoting and designing training and refresher courses, covering all areas in which IAHM is involved, especially in developing countries, and the training of local medical and paramedical personnel;
  • launching research and experimental studies in the development of techniques and multimedia materials;
  • creating data banks, bibliographies and exhibitions for schools and associations on a regional and national level.
